Lemon meringue tart & filter coffee!
A cafe afternoon: a slice of lemon meringue tart with torched meringue and tangy curd, paired with a filter coffee.
A relaxed Saturday cafe stop with BB: a slice of lemon meringue tart and a filter coffee. πβπ
What we had:
- Lemon meringue tart: a wedge with a shortcrust base, lemon curd and torched meringue
- Filter coffee, served in a little carafe
The lemon meringue tart was a proper looker, a tall slice with toasted, peaked meringue swirled across the top, golden-brown from the blowtorch. Three textures in every forkful: a crisp, buttery shortcrust base, a layer of silky lemon curd in the middle, bright and properly tart, and that soft, marshmallowy meringue on top, sweet enough to balance the sharp citrus.
It is the kind of dessert that gets the sweet-and-sour balance just right, the tang of the lemon stopping it from ever feeling cloying. The filter coffee alongside was the perfect match, poured fresh into the cup, clean and bright with a fruity edge that played nicely against the lemon.
A pretty slice and a good cup, a lovely little afternoon pause. Exactly the kind of unhurried cafe sit-down we like.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. πππΌ A sharp, silky lemon meringue tart with a bright filter coffee, a lovely sweet-and-sour pairing. Would re-order.
