Éclair + pie + drink (Burpple Beyond: $25.50)!

Boxing Day Saturday dessert run with BB — éclair + pie + drink at $25.50 via Burpple Beyond. The post-Christmas dessert pickup.

We ordered (Burpple Beyond set):

Total: $25.50 via Burpple Beyond.

The post-Christmas weekend slot is the natural time for the dessert run. We’d done the home Christmas Eve mala xiang guo and the Christmas Day home cooking; Boxing Day Saturday is the small variety break from the festive eating to do a proper sit-down cafe dessert.

The éclair was the headline pastry. French choux pastry shell filled with crème pâtissière, topped with a chocolate or coffee fondant. The classic French pastry that the cafe had been featuring on their Burpple Beyond menu.

This pastry spot’s éclairs were the proper version. Crisp shells, hollow interiors, properly filled with smooth custard. The fondant on top was the glossy variety (not the dry powdered-sugar glaze).

Two flavours probably — one chocolate (the classic), one specialty (pistachio, raspberry, caramel, or coffee depending on the day’s display case).

The pie was the substantial dessert. Probably a pecan pie, an apple pie, a key lime pie, or a chocolate ganache pie depending on what the cafe was featuring. Pies travel well at room temperature and provide a different dessert format from the éclair.

The drink was the included beverage — typically a coffee or tea each.

The Burpple Beyond set at $25.50 saves about $8-10 versus full price. The subscription continues to pay back well across the cafe and dessert categories.

The Boxing Day dessert run had become one of the small year-end rituals. After Christmas Day’s festive eating, the Boxing Day cafe stop is the small reset — proper coffee, slow dessert eating, no rush.

The pattern through December had stabilised. Home weekday cooking + hawker breaks + restaurant occasional dinners + festival-marker meals + Burpple Beyond cafe stops + the steady weekend home brunch. Phase 2 had given us back the full eating ecosystem and we’d settled into the sustainable rotation across all the tiers.

Year-end was a week away. The Burpple Beyond subscription had paid for itself many times over across 2020, and we’d be renewing without hesitation.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Excellent éclair + pie spread via Burpple — would repeat.
