TGIF dinner!

Friday TGIF home dinner — end-of-work-week home cooking. Standard weekday kitchen routine close.

TGIF dinner!

TGIF dinner at home with BB — closing out the first work week of December at the kitchen counter.

Today’s plate:

The TGIF dinner is the end-of-work-week comfort meal. The cooking energy is starting to flag, but the kitchen routine had become automatic enough that we could still pull off the standard plate without effort.

Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.

Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk.

Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy.

Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds.

Chilli sauce on the side as always.

We sat at the kitchen counter, drank water, ate slow. Friday evening energy was the looser end-of-week mode — the weekend ahead, less urgency in the work afternoon.

December was rolling in. The year was approaching its end and the home cooking routine had carried us through it. Some lockdown habits earn their permanence post-reopening, and the weekday home dinners sit firmly at the top of that list.

Phase 2 had restored the option of restaurant dinners, but the Friday home dinner kept winning on the cost-time-comfort math. Most weekday dinners stayed home; the occasional Friday dinner-out became the planned variety break.

Overall: 4.1 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable TGIF home dinner — keeping the routine.
