McDonald's Gula Melaka Cone ($1)!

McDonald's Singapore limited-edition Gula Melaka soft serve cone — coconut-palm-sugar swirl on a wafer cone for just $1.

McDonald's Gula Melaka Cone ($1)!

The McDonald’s Gula Melaka Cone dropped, $1 of local-flavoured soft serve nostalgia. Had to try. 😋

What was on offer ($1):

The flavour was the win: proper gula melaka caramel-coconut sweetness coming through, not just artificially flavoured. Gula melaka is the dark palm sugar tapped from coconut flower sap, the same stuff that pools at the bottom of an ondeh ondeh, so it brings a deep, slightly smoky, toffee-like sweetness that’s distinctly Southeast Asian. Swirled into the familiar cold, creamy McD’s soft serve, it tasted comforting and local at once.

For $1 in McDonald’s dessert-kiosk territory, this is hard to beat, the kind of cheap, limited-edition treat you grab on a whim and end up going back for.

Overall: 4 / 5. A good local-flavour limited edition, distinctly gula melaka without being overpowering, and the cone-to-ice-cream ratio was on point. Will queue again before it disappears. 😍👍🏼
