Brunch at One Man Coffee (Upper Thomson). All-in brekkie + 2 white cold brews via Burpple Beyond, $28.60. 😋👍🏼
What was on the table:
- All-in brekkie plate: creamy scrambled eggs, two thick pork sausages, streaky bacon, sauteed brown mushrooms, baby spinach salad with cherry tomato, sourdough toast with butter pat, tater tots
- Second plate: similar build with extra greens, a single sausage, slow-roasted mushrooms, toast with golden brown crust
- Two bottles of white cold brew: One Man Coffee’s signature, the navy-and-white labels stacked behind
One Man Coffee is the Upper Thomson cafe veteran, opened 2012, the original outlet of the small Thomson coffee belt. The pitch: serious specialty coffee programme run by an actual barista, brunch menu kept tight so the kitchen doesn’t lose focus. Has a small shop-house footprint and the queue management goes through a sign-up sheet on the door.
The all-in brekkie is the kitchen-sink Sunday brunch order: every standard element on one plate. Scrambled eggs done the proper soft-curd way (not over-cooked Singapore-cafe-style), sausages with snap, bacon crispy at the edges, mushrooms with enough caramelisation to read as roasted rather than steamed. The sourdough is house-baked or sourced from a local bakery (you can taste the proper crust).
White cold brew is One Man’s signature drink. Cold brew coffee + milk + sugar syrup, bottled to take away. Smoother than cold brew alone (the milk rounds the acidity), more interesting than an iced latte (the long extraction gives chocolate-cocoa notes the espresso can’t hit). The brown glass bottles with the navy logos have been the cafe’s calling card for years.
Why Burpple Beyond works here: One Man’s regular pricing puts the brekkie at $18-$22 and the cold brew at $7-$8. Two-pax brunch with drinks runs $50-$55 before promo. At $28.60, the BB deal effectively halves the bill, the reason most BB members keep One Man on rotation.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid One Man Sunday brunch. The white cold brew was the standout, the scrambled eggs done properly. Would re-book through BB.
