Afternoon dessert at Celineβs Gelato, the gelato cafe at Novena. Waffle set for two via Burpple Beyond, $30.60. πππΌ
Celineβs Gelato started life as a literal mobile gelato cart, the passion project of Celine, a former Singapore Airlines cabin crew who spent years tasting gelato around the world before opening her own cafe (the Novena Regency shop on Thomson Road). The handmade gelato is the draw, and pairing it with freshly pressed waffles makes for a lovely sit-down dessert.
What was on the table:
- Waffle plate 1: a golden Belgian waffle with pistachio and hazelnut / caramel scoops.
- Waffle plate 2: the same waffle base with charcoal sesame (jet black) and strawberry rose (pink marble) scoops.
- A pot of hot tea and a cappuccino with rosette art.
- Ramekins of maple syrup for the waffles, on a pretty flower-dressed table.
The Belgian waffles were crisp outside and soft within, the right warm base for the dense, slow-churned gelato to melt into. Flavour-wise it mixed safe and adventurous: the pistachio was nutty and the standout, the hazelnut/caramel comfortably rich, the charcoal sesame carrying a proper toasty black-sesame flavour under its dramatic colour, and the strawberry rose the light, floral-fruity finisher.
With Burpple Beyond making it 1-for-1, the $30.60 set landed at around $15 a head, good value for two waffles, four scoops and drinks in a cosy cafe setting.
Overall: 4 / 5. πππΌ Crisp waffles and handmade gelato (pistachio the pick) in a sweet little Novena cafe, well-priced with the Burpple deal. Would re-visit.
