Luckin Coffee — coconut latte ($0.99)!

Cafe stop at Marina Square: Luckin Coffee coconut latte, $0.99 via the launch promo. 😋

What was in hand:

Luckin Coffee (瑞幸咖啡) is the Chinese coffee chain known for its app-order, grab-and-go model: you order and pay through the app, skip the queue, and pick up, with prices kept low through frequent promos. Its arrival in Singapore came with the kind of aggressive launch pricing the brand is known for, hence the $0.99 coconut latte, a price no specialty cafe can touch.

The coconut latte is Luckin’s signature drink and the reason to try it: espresso with coconut milk and raw cane sugar, rather than the flavoured-syrup approach most chains use. The coconut milk gives a genuine tropical creaminess, a real coconut richness rather than an artificial coconut-essence sweetness, and the raw cane sugar keeps it from being cloying. It is distinctive in a way most chain lattes are not.

The $0.99 launch price is the headline: at under a dollar, this was an unbeatable introduction, the kind of promo that gets a new entrant noticed in a crowded coffee market. Even at full price the coconut latte is a fair drink; at $0.99 it was a no-brainer.

Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 The real coconut creaminess (not syrup) was the standout, and the launch price was unbeatable. Luckin SG win, would re-order.
