CCF + YTF combo plate ($7.40)!

Lunch — chee cheong fun + yong tau foo combo at $7.40 at a hawker stall. The two-in-one carb + protein plate. 😋

What was on the red plate ($7.40):

This is the chee cheong fun yong tau foo combo plate — the SG-Hakka YTF stall format where you can mix CCF + YTF in one plate. Cheaper than ordering both separately (the CCF stall often runs as a sub-stall of the YTF setup).

The eating logic:

The dark sweet sauce (黑甜酱) is the SG-Hakka YTF chain signature — dark soya + sugar + cornstarch + a touch of hoisin. Coats everything in the sweet-savoury-glossy layer. Different from the clear soup version (where YTF items live in broth instead).

Stuffed lady fingers (okra) + stuffed beancurd skin are the higher-tier YTF picks (typically $1.20-1.50 each vs $0.80 for the standard fried items). The stuffing technique requires more labour = priced higher.

Fried tofu cubes = the crispy-outside-soft-inside textural anchor. Soaks up the sweet sauce best.

Side clear broth = the palate-cleansing complement to the heavy sweet sauce main. Light pork-bone broth + scallions.

Sesame seed + chopped scallions = the standard YTF garnish duo. Nutty + herbal lift.

At $7.40 = mid-tier YTF combo pricing. You’re paying for 7-8 picked items.

Total: $7.40.

Overall: 4.2 / 5. Sweet sauce had proper depth, CCF + YTF combo gave good variety, fried items had textural variety, side soup did the palate reset. Hakka YTF comfort. 😋👍🏼
