Sotong ball seafood + kway teow soup ($7)!
Chinatown hawker — sotong (cuttlefish) balls and pork meatballs in clear soup with kway teow, sliced cuttlefish, leafy greens. $7.
Lunch — sotong ball + kway teow soup at a Chinatown hawker for $7. 😋
What was in the bowl ($7):
- Flat kway teow noodles in clear pork broth.
- Sotong (cuttlefish) balls — multiple plump pale balls with the cuttlefish bite-spring.
- Sliced cuttlefish strips.
- Pork meatballs (smaller, darker).
- Leafy greens (xiao bai cai).
Sotong balls = handmade cuttlefish/squid paste balls — different from regular fishballs because cuttlefish has firmer-springier texture. Bouncy “QQ” bite is the signature.
Mix of sotong balls + sliced sotong = two textures from the same protein.
$7 = mid-tier hawker pricing for a loaded seafood noodle.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Sotong balls had proper bounce, broth was clean, kway teow was the soft carb. Underrated SG hawker style. 😋👍🏼
