IKEA dark lager ($3.50 each)!
Two bottles of IKEA's own dark lager (Öl Mörk Lager) at the IKEA cafe, toasty and smooth. $3.50 each.
A cheeky pair of beers with BB at the IKEA cafe: their own dark lager, $3.50 each. 🍺😋
What we had ($7 total):
- Two bottles of IKEA Öl Mörk Lager (dark lager, 4.7%)
Ending a furniture run with a beer is one of those small, slightly absurd IKEA pleasures, and their Swedish dark lager is surprisingly good. Where a pale lager is all crisp and light, this one had the deeper, toasty side: an amber-brown pour with malty, caramel notes and a hint of that roasted, almost chocolatey edge that comes from the darker barley.
It is smooth and easy rather than heavy, less bitter than an IPA and rounder than a standard lager, the kind of beer you can sit with comfortably. At 4.7% it is sessionable too, so two between us over the meal felt just right.
For $3.50 a bottle in the IKEA cafe it is a genuine bargain, cheaper than most bars and nicer than you would expect from a flat-pack store. A fun, unpretentious little drink to round off the trip.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 A smooth, toasty Swedish dark lager, malty and easy-drinking, and a steal at $3.50. Would re-order.
