A satisfying lunch with BB, made cheaper by Burpple Beyond 1-for-1: dry wanton mee, $5.80. ๐
What we had:
- Two bowls of dry wanton mee: egg noodles with char siew and greens, with wontons and a bowl of soup on the side, plus chilli and crispy lard
The dry version is my pick every time, and these bowls did it well. The thin egg noodles were cooked springy and tossed in a savoury sauce so each strand is glossy and full of flavour, topped with slices of sweet, caramelised char siew and a bit of crunchy greens.
The fun is in the little extras on the side. A spoon of the sambal/chilli stirred through gives the noodles a kick, the bits of crispy lard add irresistible crunch and richness, and the wontons come in a clear soup that you sip and slurp between mouthfuls of noodles, plump little parcels of pork. Eating a bit of everything together is what makes wanton mee so moreish.
It is a simple, comforting bowl, and getting it for an effective $5.80 on the deal made it even better value than usual. The kind of reliable, satisfying lunch you never tire of.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Springy noodles, sweet char siew and plump wontons, comforting and great value. Would re-do.
