What we had:
- Horoyoi ume soda (3% chuhai)
Iroha Mart is the Japanese convenience store, and the chilled chuhai in the cooler are always a fun grab. Horoyoi is Suntoryβs light, easy-drinking canned cocktail line, and the ume (plum) soda flavour is the most distinctly Japanese of the lot. It sat in the fridge next to the grape and peach ones, but ume is the one I go for.
It is gentle and refreshing, that sour-floral ume (Japanese plum) note balanced against a sweet, fizzy soda body, with the alcohol kept light at just 3% so it is more of a sip-and-relax drink than a serious one. Properly cold, it goes down beautifully in the Singapore heat, the kind of thing to crack open at home over dinner without overthinking it.
At $4.50 a can it is standard convenience-store pricing, and a nice little taste of Japan to wind down with. Light, plummy and easy.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. πππΌ A light, refreshing plum chuhai, sour-sweet and fizzy, lovely cold. Would re-stock.
