鼎泰豐 / Din Tai Fung (NT$814)!

Eating Din Tai Fung (鼎泰豐) at the source in Taiwan with BB, where the famous dumpling chain began: NT$814 (around SGD$37) for the spread. 😋

What we had:

Din Tai Fung needs little introduction, and eating it in Taiwan, where it started, felt special. The xiao long bao were exactly as exacting as their reputation: delicate, thin-skinned parcels (famously pleated with a precise number of folds) holding a mouthful of hot, savoury soup and tender pork. You lift one carefully, dip it in the vinegar and ginger, and let the soup burst. Faultless.

The potsticker was a beauty too, a long, crispy-bottomed dumpling with a lacy seared skirt, juicy inside. The pork chop fried rice was the comforting all-rounder, fluffy egg fried rice topped with a thin, savoury fried pork chop, and the sauteed greens kept things fresh and light.

Everything was precise, clean-tasting and consistent, which is exactly what makes Din Tai Fung so loved. A slightly cheaper bill than back home was a nice bonus.

Overall: 4.9 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Flawless soup dumplings, a crispy potsticker and comforting pork chop fried rice, Din Tai Fung at its home. Would re-visit.
