香香鸡块 (NT$80)!
Friday Taiwan — fragrant chicken bites NT$80. Taiwan night market chicken.
Taiwan night market snack: 香香鸡块 (fragrant fried chicken bites) at NT$80 (~SGD$3.60). 😋
A paper bag of golden, deep-fried boneless chicken bites, hot and crispy straight from the fryer.
香香鸡 (xiang xiang ji, “fragrant chicken”) is a Taiwan night market staple: bite-sized pieces of chicken marinated in garlic, soy and five-spice, then coated and deep-fried until crunchy. The Taiwanese trick is the coating, often a sweet potato starch crust rather than plain flour, which fries up extra craggy and shatteringly crisp while keeping the chicken juicy inside. A dusting of seasoning salt (and sometimes a sprinkle of pepper or chilli) finishes it.
These were exactly that: crisp, savoury and moreish, the kind of hot finger food you graze on while wandering a night market, popping one piece after another. Boneless means no fuss, just pure crispy-chicken satisfaction.
At NT$80 (around SGD$3.60) for a generous bag, it’s classic cheap-and-good night market eating, and a reminder of why Taiwan’s fried chicken is so beloved.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Crispy, juicy, well-seasoned chicken bites, a perfect night market nibble. Would happily grab again.
