鸡翅包饭 (NT$65)!

A must-try at the Taiwan night market: 鸡翅包饭 (chicken wing wrapped rice), NT$65 (around SGD$3). 😋

What I had:

This is one of those clever night-market inventions you have to see to believe. The cooks carefully debone a whole chicken wing, then pack the cavity with glutinous rice (sometimes mixed with bits of meat or mushroom), and grill the whole thing over charcoal until the skin crisps up and turns golden.

The result is brilliant: you bite through crisp, savoury, slightly charred chicken skin into soft, sticky, well-seasoned rice inside, so it is part chicken wing, part rice ball, all in one handheld package. The juices from the wing soak into the rice as it cooks, so every bite is savoury and moreish.

Eating it hot off the grill, walking through the buzz of the night market, is exactly the kind of street-food moment you travel for. And at around three dollars, it is a steal for something this fun and tasty.

Overall: 4.7 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Crisp grilled chicken skin around soft, savoury sticky rice, a brilliant night-market bite. Would re-order.
