火鸡肉饭套餐 + 卤肉饭 (NT$100)!

A pair of Taiwanese rice classics on the trip with BB: a 火鸡肉饭 (turkey rice) set and a 卤肉饭 (lu rou fan) for NT$100 (around SGD$4.50). 😋

What we had:

These two are everyday Taiwanese comfort food, and both were lovely. The turkey rice is a Chiayi specialty (a happy bit of food history, dating back to post-war American turkey reaching central Taiwan), and it is gently brilliant: tender shreds of turkey over rice, moistened with a savoury, slightly oily soy drizzle so every grain is flavoured, with a tangy pickle to cut through. Simple and moreish.

The lu rou fan was the rich one. Soy-braised pork, slow-cooked until sticky, glossy and melting, ladled over rice so the braising liquid soaks in. Deeply savoury-sweet, it is the heart of Taiwanese home cooking.

The set rounded it out with a soft braised egg and some greens. Two bowls of honest, comforting rice for a few dollars, exactly the kind of cheap, satisfying eating Taiwan does so well.

Overall: 4.8 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Savoury shredded turkey rice and sticky braised pork rice, comforting Taiwanese classics at a steal. Would re-visit.
