Wednesday craft beer evening with BB — Summer ale + Weizen at $5.50 each. Local craft brewery taproom drinks at budget pricing.
We ordered:

- Weizen — $5.50
Total: $11 for both.
The $5.50 per beer pricing suggests this was either at a local craft brewery taproom (where the brewery sells direct-from-source at the lower pricing tier) or during a special-pricing happy hour at a casual bar. The standard retail craft beer pricing in Singapore is $12-18 per glass; $5.50 is firmly in the brewery-taproom or HH-special tier.
The summer ale was the light-and-refreshing pick. Summer ale is the casual craft beer category that includes various pale ales, blonde ales, and wheat-leaning ales designed for warm weather. The flavour profile leans lighter — gentle malt, restrained hops, slight citrus or fruit notes depending on the specific recipe.
The weizen was the German-style wheat beer. Weizen (literally “wheat” in German) is the Bavarian wheat beer with the characteristic cloudy pour, the banana-and-clove ester flavours from the special weizen yeast, and the high carbonation. Different from the Belgian witbier (which uses coriander and orange peel), the German weizen relies on the yeast for the distinctive flavour profile.
The combination of summer ale + weizen covers two of the lighter-style craft beer categories. Different from a pair of IPAs or stouts (which would be heavier and more flavor-dominant), the lighter-style pair gives us the easier-drinking session beer experience.
Singapore’s craft beer scene has expanded significantly across 2017-19. Multiple local craft breweries have opened (Brewlander, Trouble Brewing, Crossroads, Pink Blossoms, etc.), each running their own taprooms or partnership pubs. The local craft beer movement has paralleled the global craft beer trend.
The $5.50 per beer pricing makes the regular craft beer rotation accessible. Different from the $12-18 retail pricing (which limits visits to once a month or less), the brewery-taproom pricing allows for more frequent visits.
The Wednesday craft beer evening is part of the post-work rotation. Different from the HH lager pricing (which leans the imports like Kronenbourg or Heineken), the craft beer session is the local-and-creative drinking option.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid craft beer pair at budget pricing — would re-visit the taproom.
