TGIF dinner at Nadai Fujisoba (100AM)!
Friday dinner at Nadai Fujisoba NI HACHI, Tanjong Pagar: cold zaru soba, a Suntory whisky highball, dashimaki tamago in mentaiko sauce, a stir-fried noodle and a lychee shiratama dessert.
TGIF dinner with BB at Nadai Fujisoba NI HACHI, the Japanese soba house at 100AM in Tanjong Pagar. The perfect easygoing end-of-week meal. π
What we had:
- Cold zaru soba: chilled buckwheat noodles on a bamboo tray, to dip into a savoury tsuyu sauce.
- A Suntory Whisky highball, fizzy and refreshing, the classic Japanese Friday pour.
- Dashimaki tamago (rolled Japanese omelette) under a mentaiko-style sauce.
- A stir-fried noodle dish with cabbage and seafood.
- A lychee shiratama dessert: chewy glutinous rice balls and lychee in a sweet milky pudding.
Fujisoba specialises in soba, and the cold zaru soba is the way to taste it at its best, the noodles springy and nutty, dunked mouthful by mouthful into the chilled tsuyu so they keep their bite. Itβs light and clean, which is exactly why a highball alongside works so well, the whisky-and-soda cutting through and keeping things easy.
The rolled tamago was soft and savoury-sweet under its sauce, the stir-fried noodles a heartier share plate, and the lychee shiratama a gentle, not-too-sweet finish. A relaxed, satisfying Friday spread without any fuss.
Overall: 4.7 / 5. πππΌ Springy cold soba, a crisp highball and comforting sides, a lovely low-key TGIF dinner. Would happily do it again.
