The $9 Burpple Beyond dessert set is excellent value pricing — substantial enough for two people to share, with the included drink and the complimentary meringue thrown in as the small extra touch.
The waffle was the substantial base. Belgian-style waffle with deep square pockets, crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, served warm. The proper waffle execution requires fresh baking and quick service — by the time the waffle reaches the table the contrast between hot crispy exterior and fluffy interior should still be intact.
Two ice cream scoops on top of the waffle. Cookies & cream gave the chocolate cookie crunch with the vanilla cream base — a reliable crowd-pleaser. Pistachio (probably the proper Italian Bronte-style or Sicilian-style) gave the nutty contrast against the cookies & cream sweetness.
The combination eats as the temperature contrast plus the flavour layering. Hot waffle melts the cold ice cream slightly into the waffle pockets, creating sweet-cream-soaked spots; each forkful brings waffle and ice cream together.
Tea came as the included drink. Probably a hot tea (Earl Grey, English Breakfast, or jasmine) in a proper ceramic teapot. The hot tea pairs well with the cold dessert.
Complimentary meringue was the small extra — a piece of crispy-on-the-outside, slightly chewy-on-the-inside meringue cookie. The meringue’s sweet-airy texture pairs with the heavier ice-cream waffle, providing a small clean palate ending.
At $9 via Burpple Beyond this is genuinely excellent value. Full menu equivalent would’ve been close to $20-22. The Burpple Beyond subscription continues to pay back well across the dessert and cafe categories.
Phase 2 had restored access to the dessert-cafe scene, and the Burpple Beyond subscription made the format accessible without breaking the budget.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Excellent Burpple Beyond dessert set — would repeat.
