Happy mid week dinner ($42.14)!

Wednesday last week of 2020 — $42.14 sit-down dinner. Year-end mid-week dinner closing out 2020.

Happy mid week dinner ($42.14)!

Wednesday last-week-of-2020 dinner with BB — $42.14 sit-down spread. The mid-tier mid-week dinner closing out the year.

We ordered (mid-week dinner):

Total: $42.14 for the spread.

The $42.14 dinner sits at the mid-tier sit-down restaurant pricing. Substantial enough to feel like a proper restaurant meal, restrained enough not to require special-occasion justification. Roughly $21 per person for sit-down dinner is the fair-value zone we’d settled into through phase 2.

Mains were the focus. Both came as proper restaurant-tier plates — quality protein with sides, cooked to order, plated cleanly.

A shared side added the supporting component.

Drinks were the standard restaurant pours.

The Wednesday mid-week dinner during the last week of December was the small marker of the year winding down. Two days left in 2020. The pattern of mid-week dine-in breaks (occasional Burpple Beyond sets, Chope vouchers, casual sit-down restaurants) had been steady through phase 2.

The year-end dinner was the small reflective moment. 2020 had been the year of the global pandemic, the months-long circuit breaker, the gradual phase 2 reopening, and the slow rebuilding of a sustainable eating routine. The home cooking + hawker stops + restaurant occasional rotation that we’d built through the year was firmly the new normal.

Some lockdown habits had earned their permanence post-reopening:

The split between home cooking and restaurant dining had stabilised in the most sustainable form we’d found through the year. Phase 2 had restored access to the full ecosystem, and we’d settled into the rotation that worked for our energy and budget.

The Wednesday mid-week dinner at the casual restaurant was the small celebration of getting through 2020 mostly intact. We sat at the table, ate slow, drank water, talked about the year about to close.

One more day until 2021. The year that had needed reliable anchors more than most had given us a steady food rotation as one of those anchors.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Solid mid-week year-end dinner — keeping the rotation into 2021.
