Kok Kee Wanton Noodles 国记云吞面!

Revisit to Kok Kee Wanton Noodles (国记云吞面)! 😋

Kok Kee is one of the most-talked-about old-school wanton mee names in Singapore, a stall with a devoted following for its distinctive, slightly wet-style tossed noodles, a different texture from the usual dry wanton mee. Expect long queues averaging around half an hour on a weekend brunch or lunch; to avoid them, visit around 5-ish for an early dinner (that is our trick).

The stall:

Wanton mee with less chilli ($5)! The noodles are the signature, springy, tossed in the house sauce to that characteristic slightly-moist finish rather than bone-dry, with char siew and wantons.

Yummy!

Revisited and ordered the one without chilli ($5 each) this time:

The verdict after trying it both ways: we prefer the wanton noodles without chilli, the sauce and the noodle texture come through cleaner without the chilli competing, letting Kok Kee’s signature toss be the star. The springy noodles in that house sauce are what keep the queues coming, and what keep us coming back.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 The signature springy, slightly-wet toss is the draw, and we prefer it without chilli. Would definitely re-visit.
