TGIF dinner — Din Tai Fung!
TGIF date night at Din Tai Fung — the reliable xiao long bao + side dish run that never disappoints. Crowd-tested chain that earned its crowds.
TGIF date night with BB — when we want a no-fuss dinner that we know won’t miss, Din Tai Fung is one of the defaults. The Taipei-born chain has a reason for the always-on queue at every outlet, and it’s the xiao long bao.
We ordered:
- Xiao long bao (10 pcs)
- Truffle XLB (truffle pork XLB)
- Fried rice with shrimp & egg
- Stir-fried greens
- Hot & sour soup
The classic XLB still hold up the whole chain. Pleat count, soup-to-meat ratio, and the way the skin stretches without tearing when you lift one out — all consistent. We added a small order of the truffle version for the indulgence.
The fried rice is the underrated order — fluffy, well-seasoned, with that even egg coating around each grain. Stir-fried greens were simple garlic-and-oil, palate cleansing between dumpling rounds. Hot & sour soup had real depth with the pickled bamboo and tofu doing their work.
DTF being a chain doesn’t lower the bar — each outlet runs the same playbook with the same execution, which is exactly why it’s worth the queue when you don’t want a wildcard.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Safe, satisfying TGIF — would always go back when XLB cravings hit.
