Tuesday bubble tea haul — $21.70 takeaway order of our favourite drinks. The kind of multi-cup pull where you bulk-order from a chain you trust and stock the fridge with bubble tea for the afternoon.
We ordered:

- Mix of milk teas, fruit teas, and signature specials
Total: $21.70 for the haul.
The favourite drinks framing tells you we’d been doing the bubble tea rotation long enough to know exactly which combinations we wanted. After months of trying different chains during lockdown, we’d settled on one or two chains as the regulars and the rest as occasional visits.
The takeaway haul format made sense for a couple of reasons. First, the kind of drinks that travel well stay good in the fridge for a few hours, which means you can stretch the haul across the afternoon and evening. Second, the bulk-order math sometimes works in your favour when the chain runs a promo on multiple-cup orders. Third, the contact-minimisation logic of lockdown era still influenced our behaviour — one trip out for multiple drinks beats multiple trips out for one drink each.
We tend to mix the drink types. A milk tea base (chosen for the tea quality), a fruit tea (for the refreshing afternoon option), and a signature special (for the indulgent option) cover the spectrum.
The pearls or jelly toppings are the customisable upgrades. Standard pearls for the milk tea, no toppings for the fruit tea (let the fruit do the work), and the brown sugar pearls or grass jelly for the signature drink.
Sweetness levels stay at 50% for me, BB sometimes goes lower at 30%. The lower sweetness lets the tea or fruit flavour come through.
At $21.70 for the multi-cup haul this is fair chain pricing — somewhere around $3-5 per cup depending on the size.
Bubble tea was one of the small luxuries that the chain industry kept available throughout lockdown and into phase 2. The cup formats may have evolved but the joy of holding a properly chilled bubble tea on a hot afternoon has not.
