Tuesday's lunch!
Tuesday August phase-2 lunch — home plate of rice, eggs, vegetables. Steady weekday kitchen routine.
Tuesday lunch at home with BB — the steady mid-rotation weekday meal. By Tuesday we’d settled into the work week rhythm and the kitchen routine ran on autopilot.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg (sunny-side)
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein
- Chilli sauce on the side
The Tuesday lunch sits in the quiet steady-state slot of the week. Not the Monday energy or the Wednesday mid-week peak — just the focused middle day. The cooking happens almost without thinking; the components have been the same for so long that we don’t have to plan it.
Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.
Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk.
Stir-fried vegetables today were a mix of cabbage and carrot shreds with garlic and a splash of soy. Crunchy stems, lightly seasoned.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit in the pan in its rendered fat, browned both sides.
Chilli sauce on the side as always.
We sat at the kitchen counter, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. The mid-morning quiet of working-from-home meant we could properly pause and eat without the rush of the office canteen routine.
The home weekday lunch was probably the single biggest beneficial habit shift from lockdown. Pre-pandemic, weekday lunch was either a $10+ rushed meal at the office canteen or a quick takeaway eaten at the desk. Lockdown forced us into proper sit-down kitchen lunches at $3-4 in groceries, and the contrast was so favourable that we’d kept the habit going through phase 2 and beyond.
Some lockdown habits earn their permanence.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Tuesday home lunch — keeping the routine.
