Monday's lunch!
Monday August phase-2 lunch — home plate of rice, eggs, vegetables. Start-of-week home kitchen routine.
Monday lunch at home with BB — start of August work week, home kitchen as the default lunch venue. The weekday home routine continued through phase 2 reopening because the cost-versus-quality math kept working in its favour.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg (sunny-side)
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein
- Chilli sauce on the side
The Monday lunch is the start-of-week reset meal. After the weekend’s home brunches and the occasional Sunday cafe stop, Monday returns us to the simple weekday plate. The cooking energy is in the comfortable mode — focused, neither over-ambitious nor under-prepared.
Hot rice base was the standard fluffy jasmine.
Fried egg was the M-style sunny-side. Crispy white edges, runny golden yolk.
Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips, smashed garlic and a splash of soy.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage rounds — sliced Bratwurst, hit in its own rendered fat.
Chilli sauce on the side as always.
We sat at the kitchen counter, drank coffee from the V60, ate slow. The Monday work-from-home lunch break had a different rhythm from the pre-pandemic office lunch break — slower, less rushed, with proper sit-down eating rather than the quick canteen-and-back format.
The home Monday lunch had become the small ritual that anchors the start of the work week. The kind of meal where you check in with each other for 30 minutes before going back to the work afternoon.
Lockdown habits worth keeping post-reopening. The home weekday lunch was firmly on the keeper list.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Monday home lunch — keeping the routine.
