Hojicha chestnut & mango yuzu cakes + camomile tea + flat white ($25)!
A cafe afternoon tea: a hojicha chestnut Mont Blanc-style cake, a mango yuzu cake, camomile tea and a flat white. $25.
A cosy cafe afternoon tea with BB: two cakes and two drinks for $25. ๐ฐ๐
What was on the table:
- Hojicha chestnut cake: hojicha chiffon layers with white cream, topped with piped chestnut purรฉe and icing sugar
- Mango yuzu cake: sponge layered with mango cream and yuzu curd, with cream rosettes and candied yuzu peel
- Camomile tea
- A flat white with a rosetta
These Japanese-French style layer cakes are the kind of pretty, delicate thing a cafe afternoon is made for. The hojicha chestnut was the cosy, autumnal one: hojicha (roasted green tea, more earthy and nutty than matcha) chiffon layered with cream, finished with that lovely Mont Blanc-style tangle of piped chestnut purรฉe on top. Earthy, nutty and gently sweet.
The mango yuzu was the bright counterpart: soft sponge with mango cream and tart yuzu curd, the candied yuzu peel adding a fragrant, bittersweet edge. Sharper and more citrusy, a nice contrast to the mellow hojicha one.
To drink, a soothing, floral camomile tea for me and a flat white for BB, poured with a neat rosetta. A relaxed, slightly indulgent afternoon over cake and coffee, exactly how we like to wind down.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ An earthy hojicha chestnut and a bright mango yuzu cake with good coffee, a lovely afternoon tea. Would re-visit.
