Mee chiang kueh is the heritage peanut pancake, cooked on a griddle and folded over a filling of crushed peanut and sugar. Mr Beanโs is the mass-market chain version, and this one was actually a decent thickness, not the over-doughy kind you sometimes get, with a soft pancake interior and the sweet, nutty peanut filling at the folded edge. Golden and comforting.
The soya bean is Mr Beanโs hero, the drink they built their name on, and the cup still carries that cheeky Singlish doodle (โdonโt play play, our soy beans from Canada okayโ). Smooth, clean and gently sweet, the perfect partner to the pancake.
For $1 redeemed through an insurance loyalty programme, this is basically free lunch material. A small, happy snack, and the kind of deal I will keep redeeming.
