Curry YTF, chee cheong fun & barley gingko beancurd ($8.90)!
A lunch and dessert combo: curry yong tau foo with fried items, a chee cheong fun side, and a shaved-ice barley gingko beancurd. $8.90.
A lunch-plus-dessert combo with BB: curry yong tau foo, chee cheong fun and a barley gingko beancurd, all for $8.90. 😋
What was on the tray ($8.90):
- Curry YTF: a bowl of deep red-orange curry gravy with fried beancurd skin, stuffed beancurd, a fried fishball and fried wonton skins, topped with fried shallots and sesame
- Chee cheong fun: soft rice noodle rolls in chilli paste, sweet sauce, fried shallots and sesame
- Barley gingko beancurd: smooth tofu pudding with barley and gingko nuts under a mound of shaved ice
This is a dessert stall that also does YTF, so you get the savoury main and a cold sweet in one tray. The curry YTF is the spicier take on the soup version, the same fried picks but in a rich coconut curry gravy. The fried wonton skins are the secret highlight, soaking up the curry like a sponge until each one is a little flavour bomb.
The chee cheong fun on the side was the soft, savoury filler, rice rolls dressed simply with chilli, sweet sauce and shallots. And the barley gingko beancurd was the cooling closer: silky tofu pudding with chewy barley and faintly bitter gingko nuts under the shaved ice, cold and lightly sweet, exactly what you want after the curry.
A nicely rounded little meal, savoury and sweet, for under nine dollars.
Overall: 4.2 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Coconut-rich curry YTF with curry-soaked wonton skins, finished with a cooling barley gingko beancurd. Would re-order for the dessert.
