Golden Mile Special YTF ($0.60/pc, $7.20)!

Lunch at Golden Mile Special Yong Tau Foo (黄金特制酿豆腐): $7.20 for 12 picks at $0.60 each. 😋

What was on the plate:

The joy of YTF is picking your own, building the plate to your appetite. I went dry, with the picks tossed through bee hoon in that sweet dark sauce rather than served in soup.

The sauce is what separates the good stalls from the rest, and this one made its own: thick, faintly garlicky, sweet and savoury, coating the bee hoon and the picks, with chilli for heat and fried shallots for aroma. The fried items are the smart choice, the fried wonton skins and beancurd puffs soaking up the sauce and adding crunch that the soft stuffed pieces lack. A good plate balances soft, fried and fresh, a few soaking pieces, a couple of crunchy ones, a green or two.

At 60 cents a piece, the pricing is the draw: 12 for $7.20 is solid value, and you decide exactly how much to eat.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 That sweet dark house sauce over the fried picks and bee hoon was the standout. Budget Hakka YTF win, would re-order.
