Last week's catered lunches — WFH bento rotation!
WFH office catered bento collage — curry chicken yellow rice, nasi lemak with fried egg, nasi briyani, roast chicken rice with sambal, fried rice with omelette.
WFH lunch roundup — last week’s office-catered bento collage. 5 different bentos in one photo grid. 😋
What was in the rotation:
- Curry chicken bento (top-left) — 4-compartment black tray with vegetable stir-fry, curry chicken with potato chunks, sambal chilli, and yellow turmeric basmati rice.
- Nasi lemak with fried egg (top-right) — coconut rice topped with sunny-side-up fried egg, sambal, ikan bilis, peanuts, fried fishcake balls.
- Nasi briyani (middle) — basmati briyani rice with shredded chicken, achar (pickled veg), papadum, curry potato chicken pieces.
- Roast chicken rice (bottom-left) — 4-compartment tray with stir-fried greens with shallots, dark soya roast chicken slices, braised egg, fragrant rice.
- Fried rice with omelette (bottom-right) — wok-fried rice topped with lacy omelette, sambal chilli, fried lup cheong/sausage pieces, mushrooms.
WFH office catered bentos is the work-from-home pandemic perk — companies arranging delivery bentos for the team so we stay connected even from home. The variety covers all the SG hawker classics in bento format.
The bento rotation pattern is consistent: 1 local Chinese (curry chicken / chicken rice) + 1 Malay (nasi lemak / briyani) + 1 fusion (fried rice / sambal) across the week. Each meal lands at the door around 12pm via delivery rider.
Nasi lemak with fried egg was the comfort week-opener — coconut rice + sambal + ikan bilis + peanuts is the breakfast-for-lunch indulgence.
Nasi briyani with shredded chicken + papadum was the Indian-Muslim option — basmati briyani done at proper restaurant grain-separation level, no clumpy rice.
Roast chicken rice with braised egg was the Hainanese-Chinese pick — fragrant rice + soft-tender chicken + sweet-dark soya combination.
Fried rice with sambal + lacy omelette was the SG-fusion comfort — wok-fried rice with the auntie’s signature finishing of lap cheong + sambal.
Curry chicken with yellow turmeric rice was the SG-Indian-Muslim style — coconut curry with potato chunks + chicken pieces over fragrant turmeric rice.
Catered bentos are the right WFH balance — not as good as eating at the hawker, but better than cooking. Different cuisine every day keeps the lunch hour interesting.
Overall: 4.3 / 5. Five different cuisines, all reliably executed at WFH-bento standard. Curry chicken + nasi lemak were the standouts. 😍👍🏼
