Monday's donated lunch!

Monday lockdown lunch — second round of donated bento from community relief programme. Continued support during circuit breaker.

Monday's donated lunch!

Monday circuit-breaker lunch — another donated lunch box from one of the community relief programmes. This is the second one we’ve received and the gesture still hits the same.

Today’s box came with:

Same kind of bento format as the last donated lunch we received — clearly portioned compartments, sealed under transparent film, with each component plated with the kind of care that says someone budgeted real money to make sure the lunches reaching households like ours weren’t sad sandwich-handouts but actual catered meals.

The rice base was steamed white rice, fluffy. The protein piece was tender, properly glazed with a sweet-soy sauce. The two vegetable sides today were a leafy stir-fry and a side of cabbage with carrots. A small piece of kueh sat in the corner as the dessert finisher.

The food was solid. What I keep coming back to is the infrastructure. Community kitchens running daily lunches at scale during lockdown, volunteer riders coordinating pickup-and-delivery, donor money funding the supply chain — it’s a whole logistics operation built on goodwill, and it kept thousands of households fed during one of the harder weeks in recent memory.

We’re not in the income bracket the programme is actually trying to support, so the deliveries to us were likely sample-tier rotation. But it gave us a clear picture of what reaches the households that depend on the programme more directly.

Pay it forward, support the food-charity orgs, and tip your delivery riders well. The whole stack matters.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Donated lunch round two — full gratitude.
