Vesak Day brunch by M!
Vesak Day public holiday brunch by Meryl during circuit breaker — home-cooked plate to mark a quieter version of the holiday.
Vesak Day morning at home — brunch cooked by M (Meryl). The Vesak Day public holiday usually means temple visits and a family lunch out, but circuit breaker meant a quieter version: just BB and me at home, M in the kitchen.
Today’s plate:
- Rice / noodle base
- Eggs
- Vegetables
- A protein side
The brunch followed M’s usual weekend formula — clean components, balanced plate, the kind of food that doesn’t try to impress but quietly does.
The base was a hot starch — fluffy jasmine rice or fresh egg noodles depending on what she felt like cooking that morning. Either choice carries the rest of the plate.
Eggs were the M signature — pan-fried with crispy white edges and a still-runny yolk, perfectly aligned in the middle of the plate. The egg-to-everything-else ratio is the thing M gets right consistently.
Vegetables — stir-fried mixed greens with garlic and a splash of soy. Tender, lightly salted, providing the colour and freshness against the heavier components.
Protein was a small side of pan-fried sausage or a quick-glazed chicken piece — whatever felt right for the morning. We don’t plan brunch protein in advance, we improvise from the fridge.
The holiday significance wasn’t entirely lost. Vesak Day at home with home-cooked food made it more reflective than the usual public-holiday rush. We ate slowly, talked about nothing-in-particular, and got back to whatever lockdown Thursday meant after that.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Lovely Vesak Day brunch by M — quiet holiday energy.
