Saturday's brunch by M!

Saturday circuit-breaker brunch by Meryl — home plate of eggs, rice, sides. The M edition of the weekend brunch rotation.

Saturday's brunch by M!

Saturday brunch at home — cooked by M (Meryl) today. The lockdown brunch rotation usually has W (BB) in the kitchen on weekends, but M took over today and put together a plate that hit different.

Today’s plate:

M’s plating game is the upgrade over mine. The colours line up cleaner, the components don’t overlap, and somehow the food looks like it’s been to a styling class compared to BB’s casual “pile it together and let the sauce mix on its own” approach.

The egg was the standout. Pan-fried on medium-low heat with butter, taken off the moment the white set, yolk still bright glassy gold. Crispy edges from a final 10-second flash of high heat right before plating. The kind of egg that earns its own paragraph because it deserves one.

Rice was rice — fluffy jasmine from the rice cooker, properly steamed. Nothing fancy required.

Stir-fried vegetables — cabbage, carrot and a few thin slices of zucchini, sautéed with garlic and a finishing splash of soy. Tender-crisp, lightly salted.

Pan-seared sausage was the protein anchor. Sliced rounds, hit the pan in their own fat, browned both sides until the edges crisped.

Chilli sauce on the side because it’s the universal upgrade.

We ate slowly, drank coffee, talked about whatever wasn’t lockdown news.

Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Excellent M brunch — she’s earning her weekend kitchen slot.
