Nian gao waffle + Osmanthus Oolong + Hoegaarden Rose gelato ($6.80 + $8.50)!
Artisan gelato café dessert — nian gao waffle with osmanthus oolong and Hoegaarden rose gelato scoops. $6.80 + $8.50.
Date dessert — artisan gelato café for the nian gao waffle + two unusual gelato flavours combo. $15.30 total. 😋
What was on the white plate ($6.80 waffle + $8.50 gelato):
- A golden nian gao waffle — the Chinese New Year sticky-rice-cake batter folded into the waffle dough. Gives the waffle a slightly chewy, denser bite compared to standard. Crispy edges, mochi-style middle.
- A scoop of Osmanthus Oolong gelato (left) — pale beige, with the unmistakable osmanthus floral fragrance on top of toasty oolong.
- A scoop of Hoegaarden Rose gelato (right) — pinkish-tinted, made from the actual Belgian wheat beer + rose syrup. Boozy-floral.
- A drizzle of dark gula melaka or chocolate sauce ringing the waffle edge.
Two gelato flavours, neither traditional, both surprisingly drinkable-via-spoon: osmanthus oolong was the tea-loving floral pick, Hoegaarden rose was the boozy-experimental one with the proper beer note coming through under the rose.
Nian gao waffles aren’t common — most cafés stick to standard buttermilk waffle batter. The mochi-style chewy middle pairs beautifully with the gelato (more textural contrast than a regular waffle).
Total: $15.30 for the plate.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. Both gelato flavours were the standouts — proper craft cred, not just artificially-flavoured creams. Nian gao waffle was the textural surprise. Café with serious flavour creativity. Will be back. 😍👍🏼
