Saturday's brunch by M!
Saturday lockdown brunch by Meryl — home-cooked plate with eggs, rice and stir-fried sides. M weekend kitchen continues.
Saturday brunch at home — cooked by M (Meryl). M is locked into the weekend brunch rotation now, and we both know not to fight the schedule. Quiet kitchen morning, slow plating, talk over the coffee.
Today’s plate:
- Hot rice base
- Fried egg
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Pan-seared protein side
- A small dish of chilli sauce
The format is the same it’s been for the last few weekends — that’s the point. M doesn’t reinvent the brunch every Saturday, she runs the same formula and rotates the small details. The result is a comfortable familiarity that makes the weekend feel slightly slower than it actually is.
Fried egg today was the M signature — pan-fried with crispy white edges and a runny golden yolk, perfectly central on the plate. The yolk-to-everything-else ratio is right.
Rice was hot fluffy jasmine, properly steamed in the rice cooker the night before and reheated to perfect consistency.
Stir-fried vegetables today were cabbage shreds with carrot strips and a touch of garlic. Crunchy texture, light salt-and-soy seasoning, balancing the protein-and-egg richness.
Pan-seared protein was a small portion of sausage today — sliced rounds, hit the pan in their own fat, browned both sides until the edges crisped. The salty-fatty bite that pairs with the egg yolk.
Chilli sauce on the side because Singaporean meals.
We ate at the kitchen table, drank coffee from the V60 dripper, and talked about whatever wasn’t lockdown news. The weekend brunch ritual was the thing that anchored the weeks.
Overall: 4.4 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable Saturday brunch by M — locked in.
