Sin chow bee hoon, curry chicken & potatoes, long beans, sweet & sour fish ($5)!
Circuit breaker cai png delivery — sin chow fried bee hoon + curry chicken + long beans + sweet & sour fish, four-dish lockdown lunch for $5.
Thursday circuit breaker lunch — pivoted to cai png (economic rice / Chinese mixed vegetable rice) delivery for the four-dish lunch. The $5 set is the lockdown lunch we kept coming back to because it spans a flavour spectrum across the box.
We ordered:
- Sin chow fried bee hoon
- Curry chicken & potatoes
- Long beans with shredded beancurd
- Sweet & sour fish fillet
Total: $5 (combo deal).
Sin chow fried bee hoon is the curry-fried-vermicelli noodle that’s a cai png staple. Bee hoon (rice vermicelli) wok-fried with curry powder, eggs, beansprouts, bell pepper, char siew strips, prawn and Chinese mushrooms. The curry-powder coat is the differentiator — it gives the noodles that distinctive yellow-orange tint and a faintly spiced backbone different from plain stir-fry.
Curry chicken & potatoes is the classic Singapore Chinese-style curry — bone-in chicken pieces and chunky potato cubes braised in a coconut-milk-and-curry-paste gravy. Mid-spiced, with the gravy slightly thickened from the potato starch. Ladled over rice this becomes its own little stew bowl.
Long beans with shredded beancurd — long beans cut into 5cm segments, stir-fried with shredded dried beancurd skin, garlic, dried shrimp, and a touch of soy. The beancurd absorbs the wok flavours and the long beans keep their crunch.
Sweet & sour fish fillet — battered dory pieces tossed in the classic sweet-and-sour sauce (tomato ketchup, vinegar, sugar, soy) with pineapple, capsicum and onion. The cai png staple.
$5 for a four-dish cai png lockdown set was honest pricing.
Overall: 4.1 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Reliable lockdown cai png — would re-order any day.
