What I had:
- A matcha green tea latte, in a cheery takeaway cup (decorated with a little striped-shirt mascot)
When I want a break from coffee, a matcha latte is my go-to, and this was a good one. It is made by whisking matcha (Japanese powdered green tea) into steamed milk, which gives it that pretty pale jade colour and a lovely creamy body.
The flavour is what sets a green tea latte apart: earthy and grassy with that distinctive matcha umami, a slightly vegetal, gently bitter note balanced by the sweet, milky steamed milk. A good one tastes properly of tea rather than just sweet milk, and this had that, the matcha coming through clearly rather than being buried. Not too sweet, which I always appreciate.
It is the kind of soothing, comforting drink you can sip slowly, with enough of a gentle lift to see you through the afternoon without the caffeine kick of coffee. The cute cup was a nice bonus, too.
A reliable, well-made matcha latte to take a breather over. Exactly what I wanted.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ An earthy, creamy matcha latte that tastes properly of tea, soothing and not too sweet. Would re-order.
