烤山猪肉 (NT$100): Taipei grilled wild boar!

A night-market snack with BB in Taipei: 烤山猪肉 (grilled wild boar) for NT$100 (around SGD$4.50). 🇹🇼😋

What we had:

Wild boar (山猪) is the night-market specialty I had been wanting to try, and this was a good plate of it. The meat came as slices grilled over high heat with proper charred, slightly crisp edges, tossed with sliced onion, red and yellow peppers and lots of spring onion, with a generous crack of black pepper through it.

The flavour is the draw. Wild boar is leaner and a touch gamier than regular pork, with a more concentrated, savoury meatiness that stands up to all that char and pepper. A squeeze of the lime over the top brightens everything and cuts the richness, so each bite is smoky, peppery and a little tangy all at once.

It is hot, fragrant, eat-it-on-your-feet night-market food at its best, the kind of thing you tear into between wandering the stalls. A fun, tasty introduction to a meat we do not get back home.

Overall: 4.3 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Charred, peppery wild boar with sweet onions and a squeeze of lime, great night-market eating. Would re-order in the markets.
