Pulled pork burger with red cabbage slaw, a side salad and fries

Jalan Besar is full of cosy little cafe-bars in old shophouses, and this was a nice spot to break up the week. The mushroom risotto was the comforting one, creamy and earthy with a tangle of crispy fried shallots on top for crunch, the kind of rich bowl you keep going back to.

The pulled pork burger was the heartier plate, soft brioche bun stuffed with tender pulled pork and a tangy red cabbage slaw that cuts the richness, with golden fries and a fresh side salad. And the cold draft Asahi, crisp and dry, was the perfect thing to wash it all down on a warm evening.

A creamy risotto, a satisfying burger and a cold beer is a great mid-week combination, and the 1-for-1 deal brought a $50-plus dinner down to $36.30. Lovely value for a casual catch-up.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. 😋👍🏼 A creamy mushroom risotto and a tender pulled pork burger with a crisp Asahi. Would re-visit.
