A proper loaded nasi lemak with BB from Hi Leskmi: the works, for $7. π
What I had:
- Coconut rice with otah, fried chicken wings, curry chicken with long beans, egg, peanuts, cucumber and sambal
Hi Leskmi has built a queue-worthy name, and this plate showed why. The base is coconut rice, cooked with coconut milk and pandan so it is fragrant and just-sticky, fluffy with distinct grains rather than gummy. That alone tells you they take care with it.
Then the toppings, and there were plenty. A slab of otah (grilled spiced fish paste in banana leaf) was the highlight for me, smoky and savoury. The fried chicken wings were crisp and juicy, and there was a generous helping of curry chicken with long beans for extra heartiness. Crunchy peanuts, a bit of egg and cool cucumber rounded it out.
But the sambal is the star of any nasi lemak, and Hi Leskmiβs is excellent: sweet, spicy and a little tangy, with that slow-cooked depth you use as a condiment with each bite rather than dumping all at once.
A complete, satisfying plate that earns its reputation. At $7 for this much, fair value.
Overall: 4.5 / 5. πππΌ Fragrant coconut rice, smoky otah and a brilliant sambal, a nasi lemak worth queueing for. Would re-visit.
