Nasi lemak ($5.50) & Lime drink ($1)!
A nasi lemak plate with coconut rice, sambal, a fried chicken wing, fried fish cutlet, egg and ikan bilis, with a cold lime drink. $6.50.
A satisfying hawker lunch out at Changi: nasi lemak ($5.50) with a cold lime drink ($1). ๐
What we had ($6.50 total):
- Nasi lemak: coconut rice with sambal, a fried chicken wing, a fried fish cutlet, a fried egg, ikan bilis, cucumber and a banana-leaf parcel of rice
- A lime drink to cool it down
The Changi area has a real reputation for nasi lemak, and this was a generous plate. The coconut rice was fragrant and fluffy, the kind that smells of pandan and coconut, with a portion wrapped in banana leaf alongside for that extra leafy aroma.
The sambal is the heart of it, a deep red-brown chilli that is sweet, spicy and savoury with that belacan funk, and you smear it across everything. Then the proteins: a crispy fried chicken wing, a crumbed fried fish cutlet, a fried egg with a soft yolk, and the essential crunch of ikan bilis (fried anchovies). Cucumber on the side keeps it fresh.
A cold, tangy lime drink was the perfect partner, cutting through the rich, spicy rice. For $6.50 with the drink, a hearty, full-flavoured plate that earns the trip out.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Fragrant coconut rice with punchy sambal, crispy chicken and fish, washed down with cold lime. Would re-visit.
