What was on the table:
- A slice of Nutella chocolate cake: layers of dark chocolate sponge with chocolate-hazelnut cream, finished with piped cream and whole hazelnuts on top.
- A black coffee.
- A flat white (with lovely tulip latte art).
The Nutella chocolate cake was the indulgent centrepiece. It’s built on that beloved chocolate-hazelnut flavour, moist dark chocolate sponge layered with a smooth, Nutella-like hazelnut cream, the whole nutty-chocolatey thing crowned with cream and crunchy whole hazelnuts. Rich and decadent, but the toasted-hazelnut note keeps it from being one-dimensional, more grown-up than a plain chocolate cake.
The coffees were the smart way to balance all that sweetness. The black coffee brings a clean, no-milk bitterness that cuts straight through the rich cake, while the flat white is the smoother, milkier option (and the prettier one, with its tulip art). Chocolate-hazelnut and coffee is a classic pairing for a reason.
At $15.40 for a generous slice and two coffees, it was a comfortable, indulgent little afternoon stop, dessert first, no apologies.
