A light, nourishing hawker dinner with BB: sliced fish soup, $5.80 each. ๐
What we had ($11.60 for two):
- One bowl of sliced fish soup in a clear broth
- One in the milky (evaporated milk) broth, with tomato, lettuce and beancurd
We got one of each style, which is the fun way to do it. The clear one was all about the clean, sweet broth, light and comforting, letting the fish and greens speak for themselves. The milky one was the indulgent version: a splash of evaporated milk turns the soup creamy, mellow and slightly richer, almost moreish, with the tomato lending a gentle tang and the soft beancurd soaking it up.
Either way, the fish was the highlight. Thin slices poached just until they turn opaque and silky, staying tender rather than firm, with that fresh, clean taste. The lettuce wilts into the soup for a bit of crunch, and a dab of the cut chilli on the side gives each spoonful a lift if you want it.
It is the sort of wholesome bowl you feel good about ordering, light but satisfying, and at $5.80 a bowl, fair value for the comfort.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. ๐๐๐ผ Tender sliced fish in both a clean and a creamy broth, wholesome and comforting. Would re-order.
