Special tonkotsu ramen ($6.90)!

A wallet-friendly ramen fix: a special tonkotsu ramen, $6.90. πŸ˜‹

What I had:

For under seven dollars, this was a surprisingly proper-looking bowl. Tonkotsu is the rich, milky-white pork-bone broth, and this one had that signature opaque, collagen-heavy body that coats the noodles and clings to the spoon. It is the comforting, full-bodied style of ramen, savoury and a little porky.

The toppings made the β€œspecial” worth the small upgrade. The chashu was nicely seared, its edges caramelised and smoky against the creamy soup. The halved ajitama egg was the highlight, the yolk still jammy and orange, spilling a little into the broth. Strands of black fungus added a crunchy, slippery contrast, and the sheets of nori softened in the soup for a toasty seaweed note.

Is it as deep as a specialty ramen-ya bowl that simmers its broth for half a day? Not quite. But for a quick, cheap, satisfying bowl that ticks all the tonkotsu boxes, it absolutely hit the spot.

Overall: 4.5 / 5. πŸ˜‹πŸ‘πŸΌ Creamy tonkotsu broth, seared chashu and a jammy egg, great value at $6.90. Would re-order.
