A specialty cafe afternoon with BB: cold white brew coffee ($8++) + 8oz black coffee ($5.50++) + strawberry & elderflower ($14++). ☕😋
A nicely varied drinks order across the table (~$32 nett):
- Cold white brew coffee: cold brew with milk, so you get the smooth, low-acid, naturally sweet character of slow cold extraction, rounded out with milk into a mellow, easy iced coffee. Not as sharp as an iced latte, more laid-back.
- 8oz black coffee: the purist’s cup, no milk, kept to a smaller 8oz so the bean’s flavour comes through clean rather than diluted. BB’s order.
- Strawberry & elderflower: the fancy one, and worth the $14. A fresh, fragrant fruit-and-floral drink, sweet strawberry lifted by the light, honeyed, slightly floral note of elderflower, often with a bit of sparkle. Elegant and refreshing, almost like a non-alcoholic cocktail.
The spread covered all bases: a smooth milky cold coffee, a clean black, and a pretty floral fruit drink to share. The strawberry & elderflower was the standout, the kind of thoughtfully-made specialty drink that justifies a third-wave cafe price.
Overall: 4.7 / 5. 😋👍🏼 A mellow cold white brew, a clean black coffee and a lovely floral strawberry-elderflower. A well-rounded cafe spread. Would re-visit.
