The McDonald’s cone is already one of the great value desserts going, and they make it more fun by rotating the flavour every so often. This time it was a tie-up with Hershey’s, the American chocolate brand, so the whole swirl was chocolate rather than the usual vanilla.
It came out a glossy cocoa-brown, piled tall on the cone, soft and creamy and properly chocolatey, with that distinctive Hershey’s flavour: sweet, milky and a touch tangy, a little different from European-style chocolate. Cold and smooth, eaten quickly before it could melt in the heat, it was exactly the small, sweet hit I wanted.
At just $1.40, only a touch more than the regular vanilla cone, it is an absolute bargain, and the limited-edition tag makes it feel like a little treat worth catching before it disappears off the menu.
