Draft 1664 & Monaco beers (330ml: €7.50 each)!
Two French beers on our Europe trip: a golden 1664 lager and a ruby-red Monaco (beer with grenadine), with pretzels and peanuts. €7.50 each.
A cosy beer break on the Europe trip with BB: a draft 1664 and a Monaco, €7.50 each (around SGD$11.60), with little bowls of pretzels and peanuts to nibble. 🍺
What we had:
- Draft Kronenbourg 1664: a golden French lager, crisp and clean
- Monaco: the ruby-red one, a beer mixed with grenadine
Side by side they made a fun pair, one gold and one glowing red. The 1664 was the straightforward, refreshing pour: a pale, easy-drinking lager with a light hoppy bite, the kind France knocks back as an everyday beer. Cold and fizzy, it went down a treat.
The Monaco was the novelty, and the one I kept sipping. It is a French beer cocktail, lager mixed with sweet grenadine syrup (and often a splash of lemonade), which turns it that lovely pink-red and makes it gently sweet and fruity. Lighter and less bitter than a straight beer, it is dangerously easy to drink, almost like a grown-up soda.
With the salty pretzels and peanuts to snack on, it was a simple, happy little stop. The Monaco was a fun discovery I’d not had back home.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 A crisp 1664 and a sweet, fruity Monaco, a fun French beer pairing. Would re-order.
