A relaxed dinner on the Europe trip with BB: Italian-style rigatoni, a pulled pork wrap, and two beers for €37.70 (around SGD$58 at 2019 rates). 🍝🍺😋
What we had:
- Italian-style rigatoni, served in a cast-iron skillet, topped with shredded lettuce, black olives and shaved cheese
- Pulled pork wrap with a side basket of fries
- A Heineken and an Affligem beer
The rigatoni came out rustic and generous, those big ridged tubes holding onto a savoury tomato sauce, with the olives adding little salty hits and the fresh lettuce a cool crunch on top. Bubbling away in the skillet, it stayed hot right to the last forkful.
The pulled pork wrap was the easy crowd-pleaser, soft tortilla packed with slow-cooked pork and greens, with crisp fries to share on the side.
The beers were a nice contrast. The Heineken was the light, crisp, easy-drinking lager you know, while the Affligem was the more interesting pour, a Belgian abbey-style ale that is fuller and a touch fruity-malty, the kind of beer you slow down for. A fun, low-key meal that summed up casual eating on the trip: a bit of pasta, a bit of pork, and good beer to wash it down.
Overall: 4.6 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Hearty skillet rigatoni and a pulled pork wrap with two good beers, easy holiday eating. Would re-do.
