Tuesday Switzerland trip dinner with BB — sausage rosti CHF 19 each + draft beer 5dl CHF 5.50 each. Authentic Swiss pub fare.
We ordered:
- Sausage rosti — CHF 19 each (two portions)
- Draft beer (5dl/500ml) — CHF 5.50 each (two beers)
Total: CHF 49 (~SGD$68 at 2019 exchange).
The proper Swiss pub dinner at authentic Swiss restaurant. The Singapore Brotzeit chain captures similar fare — but Switzerland source provides proper authentic version.
The sausage rosti is the classic Swiss combination:
Rosti:
- Grated parboiled potato
- Pan-fried into thick crispy round pancake
- Golden-brown crispy exterior + tender interior
- Sometimes additional ingredients (cheese, bacon, ham)
- The proper Swiss potato dish heritage
Swiss sausages:
- Various regional Swiss varieties
- Bratwurst (German-Swiss influence)
- Cervelat (the proper Swiss “national sausage” — boiled smoked sausage)
- St. Galler Bratwurst (white veal sausage)
- Salsiz (dried sausage)
The proper Swiss sausage rosti format:
- Substantial rosti base
- Sausage placed on top or alongside
- Sometimes mustard or proper sauce accompaniment
- Often served with green salad
- The proper “Swiss hearty meal” identity
The draft beer 5dl (500ml):
- Proper European pub serving size
- Various Swiss beers (Feldschlösschen, Calanda, Quöllfrisch)
- Lager or pilsner style typically
- The proper Swiss beer tradition
At CHF 5.50 (~SGD$7.60) per 500ml beer — proper Swiss beer pricing tier. Significantly more expensive than equivalent Singapore beer ($5-6 typical hawker / $7-9 happy hour), but the 500ml format provides proper value.
Switzerland’s expensive cost-of-living reality:
- Higher wages
- Higher imports + production costs
- Premium quality standards
- The proper “Switzerland is expensive but proper” balance
The Tuesday Switzerland pub format is proper travel authentic-cuisine sampling.
Overall: 4.8 / 5. 😋👍🏼 Excellent authentic Swiss sausage rosti + beer. Would re-visit Switzerland.
