Mushroom risotto (€18) & Seafood fregola (€22)!

Dinner on our Italy trip with BB: mushroom risotto (€18) + seafood fregola (€22). 🇮🇹😋 Italian food at the source is a different thing entirely.

What we had (€40, ~SGD$62):

The mushroom risotto was everything you want it to be: creamy, glossy short-grain rice cooked slowly with stock until it reaches that loose, “all’onda” (wavy) consistency, rich with earthy mushrooms and finished with butter and Parmigiano. There’s a reason a good risotto tastes so comforting, it’s pure technique and patience, and you could taste the difference here.

The seafood fregola was the more regional choice, and the one I’d been curious to try. Fregola is a Sardinian pasta of little toasted semolina pearls (a bit like a nuttier, chewier couscous), here simmered in a seafood broth with clams, mussels and prawns. The toasted pasta soaks up all that briny, garlicky seafood flavour while keeping a satisfying bite, coastal Italian cooking at its best.

At €40 for two proper plates like these, it felt like a steal compared to what the same would cost back home. Simple, soulful, beautifully done.

Overall: 4.8 / 5. 😋👍🏼 A textbook creamy mushroom risotto and a wonderful Sardinian seafood fregola, authentic Italian done right. Would happily eat my way across Italy again.
